How to become a Catholic Earthcare School
Welcome to the Catholic Earthcare Australia Schools’ process where schools undertake ecological change by stepping through formation and ecological education levels on their Laudato Si’ journey.
There are 5 levels of certification, revised in March, 2022 to support and encourage student led ecological initiatives. The levels are aligned to the charism of each school and founded upon the principles emanating from Laudato Si’ and the goals of the Laudato Si’ Action Platform. For more detailed information, read the sections “Certification Criteria Matrix” and “Eight Steps to Ecological Dialogue”.
The Registration Process
The website button to register as an Earthcare school will take you to a survey monkey form to complete and submit. On registration, schools are contacted to explain the process and support is offered. The schools’ ecological justice level is assessed and a level certificate will be sent to the school.
“What (some Christians) need is an ecological conversion, whereby the effects of their encounter with Jesus Christ become evident in their relationship with the world around them….The ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion”
Pope Francis Laudato Si’ n 217,219
Eight steps to Ecological Dialogue
Catholic Earthcare schools require a “whole of school” engagement around shared goals to create an ecological vocation culture. Our 8 steps to ecological dialogue are a suggested change process adapted from Professor John Kotters’ behaviour change methodology. More information on this process can be found in the “Eight Steps to Ecological Conversion” section of this website.
