Catholic Earthcare Youth Network launched

Tess Corkish from Catholic Earthcare

Tess Corkish, Youth Network Coordinator

Catholic Earthcare is proud to announce that we are launching a new Youth Network in 2015.

We are strong advocates for taking practical action to protect Creation. We believe that young people have the most to lose in this fight for the future of our planet, but also the most to gain from engaging with all sectors of the community around biodiversity, water security and climate change.

Twenty-one year old Tess Corkish, the youngest member of the Catholic Earthcare team, will be coordinating the Network.  She says: “I have reaped the benefits of engaging in a faith-based environmental community, and now I would like to combine my love of the environment with my love for Creation, and engage with young people from around Australia.”

Membership of this Youth Network will be limited to 15-30 year olds, and they will meet on a regular basis (either face-to-face or via skype). All are welcome, from the seasoned activist to anyone just trying to understand how faith relates to environmental issues.

Actions will include:

  • social events
  • mentoring
  • school projects
  • university projects (Earthcare on campus)
  • seminars/talks
  • bushwalks
  • workshops
  • conference/festival
  • film nights
  • interfaith actions
  • possible civil disobedience (for those who feel comfortable)
  • prayer groups
  • There will also be a monthly newsletter and a Facebook group for online interaction.

We are firm believers of Faith in action and we think that 2015, the year of Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, is the perfect year to engage with young people in our community.

If you would like to get involved, please call our office on 02 8907 9500 during business hours or email
