Truth, Mercy and the Solomon Islands

It’s less than one month now before I head over to the Solomon Islands as a 2016 recipient of the Santa Sabina College Solomon Islands Ex-students Fellowship, courtesy of my Alma Mater and the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia. Less than one months before this internet addict who washes her hair every second day will spend two weeks on the tiny island of Wagina away from creature comforts and her mobile phone. It seems almost surreal at the moment. I […]

A Vote for the Voiceless – A Statement by the Catholic Bishops of Australia on the Election

Australia’s Catholic bishops have called for the voices of the thrown-away people to be heard in the long federal election campaign. The bishops today issued a statement on the 2016 Federal Election, addressed to Catholics and all people of goodwill. The Bishops have used their traditional election statement to draw attention to the voiceless of our nation; particularly refugees and asylum seekers, indigenous peoples, survivors of sexual abuse, those who suffer family violence, those in the womb, the elderly, those suffering […]

Care for Creation this Lenten Season

A Lenten message from Catholic Earthcare’s Director Jacqui Rémond. Dear friends, This week we are celebrating the beginning of Lent, and I urge you all to take a moment to consider how you can deepen your relationship with God and with all of God’s creation. The focus on creation is particularly appropriate for this Lenten season, because the Holy Father’s Universal Prayer Intention for February 2016 is to care for creation. Please take a look at his inspiring new video about this Prayer […]

Permaculture – a new focus for 2016

Simon Habel, Catholic Earthcare’s Program Manager, reflects on his recent permaculture training and the link between permaculture and integral ecology. In January I had the great opportunity of undertaking a two-week Permaculture Design Certificate course in Sydney. The course was offered by Milkwood Permaculture and took place at the Montessori school in Balmain, NSW. Attending the course were 25 students from around Australia and across the world, bringing fantastic diversity of cultures and knowledge. We were all there to learn […]

Catholic Earthcare attends Paris Climate Summit

Philippa Rowland, Catholic Earthcare’s SA Regional Leader, had the opportunity to travel to France at the end of 2015 for the Paris Climate Summit. She shares her thoughts about this experience and what the Paris Agreement truly means for the future of our planet. We all prayed for the Paris Climate Talks to be a turning point, though it is clear the world is again at the beginning, not the end, of a vitally important journey. I was honoured to spend the full two weeks […]

Important Announcement

Catholic Earthcare is the part of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference which promotes ecological conversion to achieve a loving and sustainable relationship with the natural world. It uses environmental education, national and international links and advocacy to achieve this goal.

In May 2017, the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference decided to incorporate Catholic Earthcare Australia into its sister agency, Caritas Australia. This change was made to strengthen the capacity of Catholic Earthcare Australia, particularly in advocating and educating about the principles of Holy Father’s 2015 encyclical, Laudato Si, and to achieve synergies with Caritas Australia’s extensive education and advocacy work around Australia, including parishes, schools and the wider Catholic community on environmental issues such as climate change.

Caritas Australia is the Church’s international aid and development agency.  As part of the global Caritas confederation operating in 190 countries, it works alongside marginalised communities in many countries and with 11 First Australian agencies here in Australia.  Promoting the principles of Laudato Si is at the centre of the global confederation and of Caritas Australia.

This website is being refined to reflect the new administrative arrangements for Catholic Earthcare Australia. For all enquiries in relation to the work of Catholic Earthcare Australia or to request assistance, please call  1800 024 413 or email CatholicEarthcare@caritas.org.au.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Catholic Earthcare Australia and your commitment to combating climate change and protecting the environment and ecosystems from degradation and pollution.
