Let us pray for leaders in the church – at both official and informal levels – that when they speak about matters which affect how we live in our world, we can recognise and act on their advice, like the people who confidently accepted Jesus’ word in today’s Gospel reading . . . (pause)

In a week when many parents in our communities experienced a mixture of pride and trepidation as their children went to school for the first time, we also hold in prayer children in countries like strife-torn Zimbabwe: subjected to violence with parents who have been imprisoned, or facing malnutrition and homelessness . . . (pause)

We pray that our government representatives will act to solve problems being experienced in our health care services, at hospitals in the state’s Central West, and in Sydney’s Western and Northern Suburbs, as well as at Westmead Children’s Hospital . . . (pause)

As we weather hot summer days, breathing more easily when offshore winds bring coolness and relief, let us remember those who work for organisations like Coastcare to protect marine plant and animal life, and look for ways to support and raise awareness about the work they do
